How Watching My Dog Made Me Value Time

Slow down.

This quote I read today hit me hard:

“There is a version of you 10 years from now begging you to enjoy right now.”

We always hear about the best investments: your retirement fund, your health, your marriage.

Though I am a firm believer in a long obedience in the same direction, I just wonder:

What if the most valuable asset you have is this moment?

After I read that quote I looked at my dog sleeping on my bed.

I began to cry.

He won’t be here in 10 years.

Neither will my studio apartment in Paris.

Neither will my body in the mirror.

We always think we have more time.

More time to love our bodies.
More time to travel.
More time to call our parents.

We live like later is guaranteed.

But in 10 years, none of your life will be the same as it is today.

Really think about that.

And yet,

We rush through life like we are trying to get somewhere else.

What if this is it?

What if the richest moments of your life are already happening, and you’re too focused on the future to notice?

I don’t want to wait until I’m older to realize how special today was.

I’m done believing in "later." I’m choosing now.

P.S. Maybe it sounds silly, but I started taking photos of strangers with my dog. He brings a calming presence and I have always wondered whose day he has made better. I hope all of these people are doing okay.
