Tolkien once said of C.S. Lewis:
“You look at trees, he sees a forest. You look at the stars, he sees the heavens.”
I’ve been looking for a guide to navigate my creativity and faith in today’s world. And I want to share with you what I’ve learned.
C.S. Lewis was a legendary writer and thinker who gave us The Chronicles of Narnia and Mere Christianity. He had this amazing way of making big, deep ideas feel real—like being invited into a conversation that changes the way you see everything.
I gathered the most helpful pieces of advice from the brilliant mind to answer the question “how do we take his advice and bring it into our everyday lives?”
1. Start Where You Are
"You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending."
2. Creativity Is an Act of Obedience
"The great thing is to be found at one’s post as a child of God… ready to do the work He sets before us."
3. Don’t Look Back
"There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind."
4. Growth Requires Surrender
"You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream."
5. Pain Has a Purpose
"Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny."
6. Feeling is Understanding
"I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else."
7. Love = Vulnerability
"To love at all is to be vulnerable."
8. Look Within
"Don’t let your happiness depend on something you may lose."
9. Embrace Ordinary
"The homemaker has the ultimate career. All other careers exist for one purpose only—and that is to support the ultimate career."
10. Courage Is Found in Action
"Courage, dear heart."
11. Living Authentically
"Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching."
12. Humility Opens Doors
"Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less."
Do you have a story waiting to be written?
Do you feel a pull toward something meaningful but keep putting it off?
